sail making course

New season started in mid-October 2019, boarding is always possible.

Tuesday and Wednesday evening

Times: 7:15 pm to 10:15 pm.

Course has been running quite well since 2012 and students often stay longer than 1 project. Also because the projects are often large, such as a cockpit tent which is made completely new. These are projects that take a lot of time. But it is / was all worth it!

I hope for the same enthusiasm from the new and old participants / students for the new season 2020/2021.

Each course evening has a maximum of 3 to 4 students, depending on the size of the projects. space on the large tables.

If you are interested, you can sign up for this. Do not wait too long to register via email: info@dezeilerij.nl (see also contact page) or telephone. We will send the information and costs to you on request.

Or visit the sailmaker, we can meet you, you can see the space, etc.

NOTE:

This is not a training to become a sailmaker, but a course / workshop for individuals who want to make a project on their boat themselves, but do not dare to do it alone.

What does the course generally entail:

  • the 1st lesson focuses on what you want to make, the various materials and their properties. Broadly speaking, how to take molds and / or measurements and what to pay attention to, etc. is also discussed.
  • An idea is, for example, to start by making a bag yourself from residual materials. With this you learn to take measurements, work out and use the industrial machines. But this is of course not a requirement.
  • If you choose this, you should take into account that this will easily involve 2 to 3 evening classes. As soon as the bag is ready and materials for your tarpaulin, cockpit cover, etc. have been ordered (if not in stock), the mold or dimensional drawing is discussed and explained, worked out and then the real work begins.
  • Materials such as mold foil, tape for the molds and choice of canvas, PVC or other materials can be purchased in the Zeilerij at a reduced price and will be paid at the end of the evening. This can be cash, on account or by pin. The use of tape for waterproof seams, use of machines and threads are included in the course fee.
  • Our courses are “without obligation”, but the advice is that you miss as few evenings as possible. Not only to be able to start using your project as quickly as possible, but also if, for example, it is not worked on for 2 weeks, the tips and directions are often “forgotten”.
  • It is therefore a good idea to purchase a notebook and write down step-by-step advice / tips here to have your own reference work for your project. Possibly bring a camera or mobile and take photos (then notes on the palm top, etc.) and you have a very useful reference book for yourself.
